Waxbills (Estrildidae) - A Birding Adventure

Small birds found in the Old World (Eastern Hemisphere) tropics. They are sociable and live and move in large flocks.  Largely seed eaters with short, thick and pointed bills.  They are similar in structure and habits, but have wide variation in plumage and patterns. They can be very frustrating subjects as they are very skittish and never in one place for more than a few seconds. Depending on the list you are using, there are between 36 and 40 members of this family present in Kenya.
