Emberzids are a large family of perching birds who are seed eating and have distinctively shaped bills. In Kenya this family is known as Buntings (as in europe) but in the United States they are known as sparrows.  These birds are not however related to Old world sparrows.  Many species in this family have distinct patterns on their heads.  There are 275 species worldwide and 6 are found in Kenya
